The 2020 BMW X4 is a good coupe-shaped luxury compact SUV. The 2020 BMW X4 impresses with its fresh interior, comfortable front seats, and simple technical features. The BMW 2020 X4 is also assembled and comfortable to drive around city streets. Its suspension nicely lifts the bumps and dives into the road, and the standard four-cylinder engine delivers excellent fuel economy. Boxer’s BMW X3 offers all the performance and refinement of the BMW X4 2020, but with more interior and lower price. More practical SUVs of this class include the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Acura RDX.
2020 BMW X4 Interior
The BMW X4 is a five-row SUV with five seats. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and there is plenty of room for even more drivers and passengers. The back seat is simple enough for adults on shorter trips, but the low roofline makes it a better area for children when on longer exits. Synthetic leather upholstery and front seats with 10-way power adjustment are standard. Leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and heavily secured M Sport front seats is available.
The X4 is not as attractive as the exterior, but it is still attractive. The interior is modern and clean in style, and most surfaces are lined with quality materials such as soft-touch plastics, aluminum, and synthetic leather. The cabin filters most of the road and wind noise.
2020 BMW X4 Features
The 2020 BMW X4 M40i comes standard with BMW’s custom iDrive entertainment and information system. These include a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, navigation, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, a 12-speaker stereo speaker, a 12.3-inch digital gauge and automatic climate control. Available features include satellite radio, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo. A motion control system is also available, though critics get mixed reviews. The system allows drivers to adjust specific settings to hand movements.
The display is positioned in the driver’s field of view and responds quickly to inputs. Menus are also easy to understand. There are also superfluous controls. For example, you can operate the system via the control panel and the steering wheel buttons, touching and swiping on the touch screen, and using the center console buttons and touchpad.
2020 BMW X4 Engine
The 2020 BMW X4 offers four engine options, each paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The base model 30i comes with a 248-horsepower four-cylinder engine, while the mid-size M40i has a 382-horsepower six-cylinder engine. Despite its small size, the 30i engine feels almost as fast and eager in everyday driving as the larger six-cylinder engine. Acceleration is fast, and there is strong transient power on the highway. The eight-speed automatic transmission also offers quick and smooth shifts. The most striking difference between the two is the exhaust note: the M40i pipes sing a little sweeter when you press the accelerator pedal.
These models have versions of that twin-turbocharged twin-engine, 473 and 503 horsepower, respectively. Both can rocket the X4 to safe speeds – zero to 60 mph takes only 4.4 seconds – and keep that pace well above legal speed limits. That’s a little overkill for everyday driving, so we doubt most buyers will be happy with either the 2020 BMW X4 M30i or the 2020 BMW X4 M40i.
2020 BMW X4 Safety
Available driver assistance features include surround sound parking system, hands-free parking assist, blind control, rear intersection warning, adjustable headlamps with high beam, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, directional display up, and stop and go – adjustable cruise control with a traffic barrier system. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Highway Safety Institute tested the 2020 BMW X4. This is common among luxury vehicles. The 2020 BMW X4 xDrive30i comes standard with a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection.
