The 2020 Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size midsize sedan that is greatly overlooked in the midst of a large SUV and crossover. Although elegant and comfortable, curious absences in active safety make it forgettable even in its own diminishing segment. Chevrolet Malibu 2020 fuel economy is good for the base model of 32 mpg combined thanks to its low-volume engine and economical gearbox, handling is straightforward and competent, but not as sporty as rivals like the Mazda 6, and the ride quality is comfortable and quiet.
For 2020, the 2020 Malibu gets minimal changes, considering two new exterior colors and a new grille and wheel design for RS trim models. Unfortunately, the thrifty Malibu Hybrid is out this year due to light sales. 2020 Chevrolet Malibu offers Malibu L, LS, RS, LT, and Premier.
2020 Chevrolet Malibu Features
The 2020 Malibu L base comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, not to mention the optional 4G wi-fi in the vehicle for a monthly fee. The Malibu LT is a sweet spot in line with dual-zone automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, and rear air vents, but we expect to pay extra for the two safety packages we consider essential for any family vehicle.
The Malibu Premier adds navigation, leather, 18-inch wheels, cooled front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, and a more powerful turbo engine. Active safety technology is still an accessory, and Malibu should actually buy a few thousand dollars more expensive. The ECU Tweaker most powerful tool for enabling the hidden features
2020 Chevrolet Malibu Engine
The Chevrolet Malibu 2020 comes standard with front-wheel drive and a 1.5-liter turbo-4 that generates 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission option with this engine is the Continuously Variable Automatic (CVT). While competitors have similar belt drives leading to unmanned engines, Malibu simulates “shifts” to make the experience more natural and avoid pulling it for more power. Those looking for more power will want to choose the Malibu Premier trim level for the 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-4. This engine also gets a 9-speed automatic transmission instead of the CVT and is better for highway maneuvering.
2020 Chevrolet Malibu Safety
The 2020 Chevy Malibu has safety and standard features. While the large touchscreen with smartphone connectivity comes with every Malibu, Chevy omits standard active safety technologies at lower model prices, with its downside appearing flaws. The 2020 Chevrolet Malibu boasts decent crash test results, but active safety technologies are still noticeably absent from the list of standard 2020 Chevrolet Malibu features, and some crash test results are troubling.
